Mayonaka Punch (真夜中ぱんチ Mayonaka Panchi, lit. Midnight Punch) is an upcoming original anime TV series animated by P.A. Works and produced by Kadokawa Corporation. Directed by Shū Honma, who previously worked on the animated production Ya Boy Kongming! by P.A.WORKS in 2022, with series composition by Hideaki Shirasaka, who was involved in the script for Ya Boy Kongming!. The team from Ya Boy Kongming! is coming together for this project. Additionally, Tsukasa Kotobuki, known for character designs in works like "VS Knight Ramune & 40 Fire," "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin," and "City Hunter the Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes," is responsible for the original character designs. Ryōta Arima, who served as the chief animation director for "The Quintessential Quintuplets" movie and "Jigokuraku (Hell's Paradise)," is handling the character design. Honma commented, "I want to deliver a lively and enjoyable work! No, rather, this is a work created with the desire of 'I want to see it myself!!'"[1]
A manga and novel adaptation have also been decided. Tomomi Usui will be in charge of the manga adaptation. The serialization will begin in March in Young Ace (KADOKAWA), preceding the anime broadcast.[1]
A livestream of the first two episodes, plus an interview by five of the six main cast members of the series (excluding Hina Yōmiya, who was busy attending an event for the anime film Trapezium that same day) while providing new information on the anime, took place on June 2, 2024 (although the two-episode stream may only be exclusive to viewers in Japan). An edited version of the stream (only the interview) was released later that day.[2]
The anime premiered on July 8th, 2024, streaming on Crunchyroll in territories outside Japan.[3][4]
Premise[]
Mayonaka Punch is a girls' comedy that depicts "NewTubers," who are active on the world's largest video-sharing site, NewTube. The teaser visual features characters Masaki and Live, as seen on a tablet screen. The accompanying teaser video reveals various characters beyond the two from the teaser visual.[1]
The new visual, accompanied by a new trailer, features the characters Masaki, Live, Ichiko, Fū, Tokage and Yuki.[3]
