Masaki Sonoue ( (その) (うえ) () (さき) ) is one of the main characters and a protagonist in the Japanese original anime series, Mayonaka Punch.

Profile[]

Masaki Sonoue is a video content creator who produces "Mayonaka Punch." Dedicates her life to video production, taking charge of planning, filming, and editing. Her strong-willed nature is both a strength and a flaw.

She was previously active as "Masakichi" in "Harikiri Sisters", until she was kicked out of the group and fired due to a fight between her and her colleagues Kikka and Otomi.

Biography[]

In the first chapter of the manga, Masaki tries to create a solo NewTube channel after she was kicked out from the "Harikiri Sisters" after a fight, but becomes very troubled by the negative reception and comments she was given. She then seeks to recruit other NewTubers for her own channel to no avail, until she later receieves a comment by Live, while she was struggling to find recruits for her channel the next day, to meet her at an abandoned hospital. Upon reaching the place, she begins remembering memories that she shared with her friends Kikka and Otomi back when they explored the abandoned hospital, as she heads inside and soon bumps into a metal beam, causing her nose to bleed.

Whilst still solemnly reminiscing the fond memories with her friends, Masaki continued to explore until she heard a sound before she saw a pink-haired girl scrounging in a room, which unsettles Masaki as she hid and tried to keep quiet. However, when her nosebleed drips onto the ground, the girl senses it and suddenly swooshed out of the room and lands upside down on the ceiling, startling and scaring Masaki as the girl noticed her. She introduced herself as Live, the one who commented her earlier that day, and claims she had found an extreme liking to her, just before she starts pursuing Masaki out of love (especially for her blood).

Terrified, Masaki ran through the hospital to try to lose Live who was in pursuit, and heads up to the roof of the building where she was cornered, discovering in realization that Live was a vampire. After unsuccessfully trying to repel Live by making a cross gesture with her arms to no avail while the other asks to drink her blood, Masaki accidentally falls off the roof, but Live saves her in mid-air with her bat-like fluorescent wings. At first, Masaki was shocked as she was being carried by Live, as they fly in the air and through the trees, but she became astonished once they saw a beautiful view of the city. After Live takes her on a beautiful night flight over the city, Masaki becomes astonished and proposes to her on helping make her comeback, even offering to let Live bite her neck and drink her blood.

In the second chapter of the manga, Masaki faints from exhaustion as Live carries her off the abandoned hospital building, flying off back to the latter's house, where they find tending to a vampire bat that looked frail and in need of blood. Drowsily fascinated by the talking bat, Masaki kindly offers her pinky finger for the bat to bite, to which it happily does so and drinks her blood much to Masaki's panic, shaking it off from the pain and regretting her decision. The vampire bat suddenly transforms into a human named Ichiko, as Masaki looked astonished by the transformation. She wakes up the next morning back in her house later on, and goes about her day by stopping by Tachibana and Otomi's place once again.

That night, Masaki returns to Live's place as she, Ichiko and Fū properly introduce themselves as well as their channel "ChuChu Girls", while she was astonished by the growing popularity. Live then makes a proposition to her that she would have her bone marrow if they reach 1,000,000 subs, which Masaki strongly refuses after thinking. When Yuki stops by to talk to Live, Masaki hid upstairs with Fū as they look below and listen to their conversation, and when Yuki mentioned to Live about how upset Mother is, Masaki asks Fū who she was, the latter answering that Mother is a great being who protects their safe and secure lives while also making sure their abilities or existence of their vampire lineage aren't exposed to the public nor disobey instructions from Mother.

As Yuki threatens Live to delete the "ChuChu Girls" channel, Masaki defended Live and her channel, revealing herself to Yuki as the latter rushes upstairs and tries to attack Masaki, but Live blocks Yuki's attack and protects her. Masaki then suddenly feeds Yuki garlic sauce (that she brought from her house), which not only stops her, but also suddenly changes her venomous personality into a happy and curious one while imagining herself in a flower garden, much to Masaki's confusion and surprise. She soon becomes sad when Live tells her to delete the "ChuChu Girls" channel as she doesn't want to disobey Mother, and falls into despair when she comes back to her house. Masaki opens her window curtain and is startled to see Live outside, who wanted to apologize for earlier and requests to be invited into her house.

As Masaki despondently refuses to let her inside, Live asks why she pursued a streaming career on NewTube as she wants to learn more about her, Masaki recounted that she was once lonely and careless at school, watching videos to keep her entertained until her classmates Kikka and Otomi had subscribed to her channel and inspired her to be a NewTuber, which the three started their own channel as "Harikiri Sisters" back then. When Live tells her that they'll make their new channel together back to square one, Masaki mellowly invites her into her house. As they both return to Live's place, they come up with a new channel under the name "Mayonaka Punch".

Relationships[]

Live[]

Upon meeting Live for the first time, she becomes frightened when seeing her upside-down and gets unsettled when Live asks if she was the one she was looking for. As Masaki tries to persuade that she needs to go to the bathroom to her, Live ecstatically gives pursuit at Masaki as the latter starts fleeing from the scene with Live hot on her tail, up to the roof where she discovers and finds out that Live is a vampire. However, when Masaki accidentally falls off the roof, Live saves her life by catching her before they take flight, where Masaki becomes mesmerized by the night view of the city and enjoys the flight with Live. Heading back down, Masaki is amazed of Live and her vampiric abilities that she makes a proposal that if she helps her gain 1,000,000 subscribers for her channel, she will let Live bite her, much to the vampire's happiness and agreement.
